Hey ninjas, how’s the trading going? On the day the cryptocurrency market is trading sideways with top altcoins Ethereum and XRP reporting moderate gains in the last 24 hours and Bitcoin is reporting losses on the day.
On the 4th of October, a Reddit user posted about an imposter website posing as the official Trezor site. Redditor castorfromtheva stated that he conducted a test to check the site’s genuineness, he purposely typed in “tezor[dot]io” leaving out “r”, he claimed to be immediately redirected to a scam site called https://trezor[dot]run/start/. He stated that as well as redirecting him to a scam site the link also installs compromised firmware on the victim computer.
Jameson Loop, the CTO of Casa (Bitcoin key security firm) and Bitcoin engineer warned users of Trezor’s web wallet on Twitter to abstain from typing in the URL as mistyping it could redirect them to a scam site which could lead to loss of funds. He advised users to bookmark the URL instead to avoid scam sites.
Sadly this is not the first of such scams on the 23rd of May it was reported that a number of fake cryptocurrency wallets had been added to Google Play store. These apps appeared legitimate with a login screen designed to steal user credentials.
